Shamokin Area High School

Shamokin Area High School is a small, rural/suburban, public high school operated by Shamokin Area School District. It is the sole high school operated by the District. In 2013, enrollment was reported as 687 pupils in 9th through 12th grades, with 53% of pupils qualifying for the federal free or reduced-price lunch due to the family meeting the federal poverty level. Additionally, 14% of pupils received special education services, while 1% of pupils were identified as being gifted. The school employed 40 teachers.〔US News and World Report, Best High Schools, 2014〕 Per the Pennsylvania Department of Education, 4% of the teachers were rated "Non‐Highly Qualified" under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. The school is a federally designated Title I school.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in 2010 the school had 748 pupils in grades 9th through 12th, with 356 pupils qualifying for the federal free or reduced-price lunch due to family poverty.
